Youth are actively involved in a number of activities at the Centre. The youth wing includes youth from the age of 17 to 35. Some of the youth activities are described below.
Meetings are held weekly on Sunday from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm or as necessary to undertake activities.
Twice a month, youth make sandwiches and distribute them to the homeless in downtown Ottawa. This project involves a team of 4-6 youth collecting groceries, making the sandwiches and delivering them. During the winter, youth collect winter accessories such as mitts, gloves, tuques, socks and scarves and distribute them. The youth also serve hot chocolate during the cold winter months. Trained youth engineers operate the audio systems in the centre for all events. The role involves fine tuning audio signals, pre-recording of SSE Dramas, record, edit audio/video materials from special events and handle other responsibilities.
Youth are actively involved in writing the script for Swami's Birthday celebrations. The drama includes all the SSE students of the Sai Centre. The youth also take charge of music, costumes and props for the drama, as well as composing a group song for the celebration.
Every year, the youth are involved in various aspects of the retreat. The youth prepare speeches, serve as masters of ceremony, facilitate study circle discussions, present cultural items and take charge of recreation!
Want to learn some new Web development skills? Youth work hard to maintain the Centre Web site. The current website is an excellent example of that. Please feel free to inform the web developers of new ideas.
Every first Sunday of the month is dedicated to bhajans by children and youth. To better equip youth to handle this responsibility and to promote devotion to God, one meeting a month is dedicated to music practice and learning devotional songs. A lot of young musicians are identified and practice to participate in local talents shows, called bhajan sandhyas.
